Help for the jobless people driven by anxiety or depression to restart their careers
Posted on March 16th, 2009 More Than 14 DaysA host of means to support all the unemployed people experiencing depression or chagrin to work again has been heralded by Health Secretary Alan Johnson and Work and Pensions Secretary James Purnell, which includes loads of talking therapies and a network of work helpers. More talking therapies will make the services more accommodative. Employees availing sick leave or in depressive state will be given a hand to recuperate and join work again.
UK has about six million distressed and anxiety ridden workers currently living on incapacity funds as they fail to look for work. During financial crunches in the past, there has been an increase of non-working people on the said benefit; this step is to stop its relapse. NHS has attempted to assure people through free services like debt access and counseling that public services are eager to and have the capacity to help out of work people through recession times.
Mr. Johnson has declared that the government is putting in a further 13 million pounds. This would help:
- Talking therapy services in full bloom across the country with an assurance of making it available in all corners from early 2010.
- Employment support workers connected to all every talking therapy services dishing out works for those suffering from mental or physical problems and thus letting them get jobs again
- NHS Direct phone line meant particularly for health consultants to find and encourage recession hit people and reinstalling them again.
- Improved suggestions and info on the net regarding access to service close to people’s residences by means of NHS.
The Health Department has established 35 talking therapy services across the country and has completed formalities to open another 81 till 2009 end. Work consultants who live near 12 of the talking therapy centers have been allotted the onerous task by the Department of Work and Pensions along with a novel grid of job caseworkers who guarantee commendable job support to all over the country.
The Department of Health also rising its annual fund to £173 million by 2010-11 to improve access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT). This fund will be used to treat 900,000 more patients and train 3,600 extra therapists over a period of three years.
There is special emphasis on the Incapacity Benefit claimants with Mental and Behavioral Conditions who get benefit for a longer duration than claimants with other causes. In a survey panning four years, 27% of Incapacity Benefit claimants with Mental and Behavioral Conditions avail the benefit till now, while the percentage for other claimants is 20%.
