Sugary Drinks Cause Obesity, Reducing ‘Liquid’ Calories Is 5 Times More Effective Than Restricting Solid Food In Weight Loss Management
Posted on April 18th, 2009 More Than 14 DaysA recent research suggests that cramping cola and sugary drinks intake can bring more prominent weight loss than restricting diet. Obesity has been the chief bane in countries like UK and US. People have always darted on high calorie stuffs like cheeseburgers, pizzas, and chips as the major reason for obesity. No one seems to ponder about the drinks that go along with it. Soft drinks use sugar as preservatives and ingredients. Thus to an observant eye, they are the bigger culprits.
Soft drinks do not give you a feeling of wholesomeness but give a high calorific injection to the metabolism. A normal cola can push in 139 calories within you. It is common knowledge that women require nearly 2000 calories in entirety. This would mean that 14 glasses of cola could cover for the need of entire calorie intake. Doesn’t it suggest why you gain a lot of weight with soft drinks?
In a study 800 adults were made part of a weight-reduction study. Overall idea of the study was to reduce the intake of calorie but no specific instruction was given on altering their drink. The group’s entire calorie intake and calorie intake via drinks were separately measured with questionnaires. The questionnaires were filled at the inception of the program, 6 months after the program and 18 months after it.
It was found that those who undertook a diminished intake of soft drink lost more weight than others. In fact, soft drink reduction by one serving resulted in half a kilo additional weight loss over a period of six months. Weight lost via reduction in calorie intake bore this ratio - liquid: solid = 5:1. For every 100 ‘liquid’ calories one cut down a day he will lose up to 0.3 kg, but if the same amount of calories cut come from solid food only 0.06kg will be lost.
If your soft drink consumption is huge, you may have to commence your weight loss plan with reduction of soft drinks. Do engage with medical supervision and therapeutic care if you are serious about losing weight. Remember to keep a tab on your sugary drink consumption. That will stick a lot of flab on you. As an aside, you will also harm your teeth.
